The City of Calgary's Water outreach team is taking a different approach this year to educate residents about their connection to the river. Storm drains empty into our rivers and stormwater (melting snow and rainwater) gets little or no treatment before it goes to the rivers. With the help of a local movie prop company, six replicas of storm drains with cattails sprouting out of them, a fish diving in, or a family of ducks waddling out are helping to build awareness that the river begins at the storm drain and that “the Bow is below.

Click link to take an animated journey on how stormwater can carry pollutants, like oil and gas, from your driveway or fertilizer from your lawn to our rivers.
