WCS AWWA Annual Networking Event: Calgary, AB

02/08/11 | by Kyla Kirk [mail] | Categories: Fun

WCS AWWA hosted its annual networking night on February 3, 2010 following its mid-year board meeting. This year, 100 water professionals from various organizations gathered at the historic Fort Calgary to network with other consultants, utilities and service providers.

The evening began with a cocktail hour followed by a delicious meal from the Fort Calgary catering staff. The formal part of the networking event consisted of:

  • a short description of the WCS AWWA Board and its activities by the Section chair, Scott Miller
  • a short presentation on Water for People by the Section’s committee chair, Paul Klassen (including an entertaining description of pictures from our new focus country, Bolivia)
  • the announcement of the new WCS AWWA facebook group by Max Wong, Young Professionals’ committee member, and
  • a fascinating presentation on the vulnerability assessment of the City of Calgary’s water supply infrastructure due to climate change by Kate Murray.

Several attendees also won one of the many door prizes, and one lucky person walked away with almost $250 from our Water for People 50/50 fundraiser!

The Section would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all presenters, prize sponsors (Stantec Consulting & Lone Tree Sellers) and attendees as the event would not have been as successful without your participation. Finally, please take the time to join our facebook group. Search for us using the keywords “Western Canada Section AWWA”.

WCS AWWA hosts similar networking events in major cities across the Section, so please check the website often for upcoming events!
